A Wisconsin family is searching for their puppy after their car was stolen while the dog was inside.

According to FOX 6, on August 20, Juliano Mendez and his family were getting ready for a camping trip when he went to pick up a cooler from a relative's home. Mendez left the car running with his dog, Yogi, inside while he went to grab the cooler from the porch. Unfortunately, as he was getting the cooler off the porch, his car was stolen.

"I was just hopping out. So I left it on – and it was also hot out – so I just closed the door," Mendez said to FOX 6. "Ran up real quick. I got to the steps and then I hear the door slam and I turn around; they’re already down the street."

Not only was Yogi stolen, but Mendez also left his phone in the car, so he had no way to call 911.

"I tried chasing after them, but I couldn’t, so I just went door-to-door asking if I could borrow someone’s phone to call 911," said Mendez.

Theresa Velazquez, Mendez's mom, went back to the neighborhood where the car and Yogi were stolen after hearing that someone was seen walking Yogi. They did not find Yogi, but they found the stolen vehicle.

"I just wanted Yogi back at that point. I didn’t need the other car," Mendez stated.

Yogi was not microchipped. "We’re not losing hope. We're going to drop off flyers around the neighborhoods on that side of town," said Velazquez.
