Sen. Johnson Disputes Bolton Manuscript Account of Trump Meeting

Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson on Thursday denied a New York Times report on former National Security Adviser John Bolton's manuscript in which it was claimed that President Trump tied U.S. aid to Ukraine to politically-motivated investigations during a May 23, 2019 meeting.

"I have no recollection of that ever coming up," Johnson said in an exclusive interview with "The Dan O'Donnell Show." "Certainly not in the May 23rd meeting."

Johnson reiterated his prior statements about that meeting, during which he says the President never brought up aid to Ukraine at all. Johnson said President Trump was instead concerned about corruption in the Ukrainian government generally.

"No one knew about aid to Ukraine being an issue at that point," Johnson said, adding that he doesn't recall seeing Bolton in the meeting on May 23rd at all. Johnson previously told "The Dan O'Donnell Show" that various aides were present in the meeting, but that he doesn't remember who specifically was there.

"I don't recall seeing John [Bolton] there," Johnson said Thursday.
