Almost every article for the last 24 hours has claimed that Trump fired Comey after Comey requested more money for the FBI’s Russian investigation. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein denies he threatened to quit his post amid the firing of FBI Director James Comey and does not plan to resign. The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee suggested on Thursday that former FBI Director James Comey informed him last week that President Trump is not a subject of the bureau’s Russia investigation. Calling ousted FBI Director James B. Comey a “showboat,” President Trump said Thursday that he had planned to fire Mr. Comey regardless of whether Justice Department officials advised it. “The FBI has been in turmoil,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with NBC News. “Look, he’s a showboat, he’s a grandstander. Regardless of [a] recommendation, I was going to fire Comey.”
