City leaders ignore Milwaukee's exploding homicide rate

My friends-the LA Times had a lengthy story this weekend detailing how Milwaukee is among the absolute worst cities when it comes to the latest homicide epidemic.

That’s right: a west coast newspaper whose crime reporters cover the hellhole that-is- Los Angeles- find themselves shocked at how bad it is here in Milwaukee.

Think about that. They write:

Milwaukee is in the grip of the worst violence in its modern history. There were 189 killings last year, a 93% increase from 2019 and the most ever recorded.

Have you heard these stats- put in these terms- from the j/s or the news stations here in Milwaukee?

No.

Have you heard our mayor and our councilmen cite these stats and express alarm?

No.

Are any of them mortified that they are the elected officials of this new era of homicides?

No.

Are any of them calling for more police? More detectives to solve these crimes.

No.

Are any of them blasting John Chisholm’s office and the Milwaukee County Court Judges for not fully prosecuting murderers of the law?

No.

Why is that?

How can Milwaukee’s leaders be so incredibly apathetic and disinterested?

Is it a learned apathy-over decades of liberals lying about their ability to solve the crime problem?

Or were they always pretending to care?

I will point to one new element in Milwaukee’s equation: a mayor who was only-ever a caretaker mayor, at best- never really interested in solving Milwaukee’s crime and homicide problems-

And he’s now a place holder mayor.

We were told last week that it could take three to nine months for Tom Barrett’s appointment to be a Biden ambassador to be finalized.

And so, is he just going to -pretend? -to be mayor until then? Because he’s already mentally checked out. That much is clear.

And Calvin Johnson-as the head of the council-won’t take over as acting mayor until Barrett leaves, so, is anyone? Leading this city right now?

And why wouldn’t Barrett at least move aside so that someone could?

Barrett must be worried that his nomination won’t go thru-or might never be finalized- and so he wants to cling to this mayor’s position like grim death.

I’m guessing that if he doesn’t get to be the ambassador to Luxemburg, he still wants to be Milwaukee mayor. And so, he’s refusing to resign and allow for Calvin Johnson to insert himself into the job of running a major city...

And so, Milwaukee just isn’t going to have a mayor for the next 3 to 9 months. Or longer.

Because tom Barrett is already ignoring the city’s problems and acting as if he’s ‘already gone’. Candidates are already stepping up to run in a mayoral election that isn’t even a certainty yet.

But gee- no one wants to lead the city.

Isn’t that something?

Sadly, it’s not surprising to anyone who has lived in southeast Wisconsin for any length of time. Tom Barrett has been a pathetic mayor. He’s never gotten serious about solving Milwaukee’s worsening crime problems.

Why would he care now-that Milwaukee is seeing a worse surge in murders than even Chicago, LA, or New York?

And yes-there is a huge racial element to this, as the la times story points out:

“Deep Rooted’ racism...the la reporter says.

Most of the homicides last year — 54%— occurred in a roughly 30-block radius on the north side, a predominantly Black area where deep-rooted racism has led to neglect and poverty.

On whose part?

White Wisconsinites? Who-for the more than 30 years that I’ve been here has perpetually floated ideas to improve the north side of Milwaukee and improve the schools that those black children are attending?

Or has it been black Milwaukee leaders -and their white elite liberal counterparts-who have been the racists and dug in against reforms-and protected the terrible, impoverished status quo?

What a cheap cop-out to blame racism-by the la times.

So, there’s that story.

Then there’s this related story: Wisconsin Right Now breaking the news that Milwaukee County courts have a two-year backlog.

You’ve got to be kidding.

All these judges seem to do is send thugs and felons into diversion programs. How can we have a two-year backlog of cases?

Talk about ‘justice delayed’ being ‘justice denied’

Holy cow.

Jessica McBride and Wisconsin Right Now report:

The judges are blaming delays on shortages in every department-and every position: there are shortages of court stenographers, sheriff’s dept. deputies that control the courts and usher around the accused...etc.

It’s a bad situation, all around. And once again, because democrats are in charge, no one is held accountable.

And if you think that’s wrong: when was the last time it was ‘scandalous’ that our jails and prisons were overcrowded and undermanned-

When Scott Walker was governor. Correct?

We had some bad conditions at the boy’s prison in Lincoln Hills and the lefty media rushed to make it a scandal and a stain on walker’s leadership.

Now? Do we ever hear about Lincoln Hills and the fact that there are new problems there in the Evers era? No.

Sheriff David Clarke was another conservative, and so any perceived shortcoming in one of Sheriff Clarke’s facilities and he was pummeled as incompetent by democrats and their accomplices in the WI media.

Well now, sheriff Ernell Lucas is a liberal-and his county jail and house of correction are both in disarray-and he’s getting a complete pass. Let’s just blame staff shortages.

Lucas has screwed up the county jail system that Clarke had running nicely-and instead of getting heat for it and being replaced as a bad sheriff- Lucas has decided to run for Milwaukee mayor. Maybe he can stay ahead of any accountability on his failures as sheriff.

One reason that democrats ruin everything is that they are never held accountable by the

So-called fourth estate- or the voters in the big cities where they are elected.

Currently, Tom Barrett is an absentee mayor, the murder rate has skyrocketed. Very few of these homicides are even being solved. And apparently, no one cares.

Folks-the murder rate-here. In Milwaukee. Shocked crime reporters in Los Angeles enough to write about it.

Think about that. We think LA crime is bad and most of us wouldn’t want to live there. Their crime reporters are wallowing in that daily LA “crapulence” and even they! Are shocked to hear about Milwaukee’s level of crime.

If they only knew about the level of apathy that Milwaukee’s mayor and leaders have toward it- they’d really be blown away.
