The ratings for the Tokyo Olympics have tanked dramatically from 2016. And i notice that all the news stories compare them without mentioning the time difference, and again, in the interest of fairness and truth...
The 2016 summer Olympics were in Brazil.
Brazil is in our eastern time zone. They’re only one our ahead. And so- the events happened live-if we wanted to watch them- at a time of day in which we could easily do so.We didn’t have to wake up in the middle of the night or stay up late to see the events live.
And that, i would think, makes a big difference when it comes to overall ratings- “games to games.”
Now-that said- ratings are-awful-for NBC’s nightly coverage. The pre-packaged wrap up that would traditionally get the most viewership.
And the sort of indifference and low viewership numbers that NBC is seeing -nightly- cannot be explained by ‘time zone’.
Viewership that’s been down 35 to 55 percent depending on the night...is not due to time zone differences. NBC is still, after all, packaging all of this up for us in nightly coverage.
The fact that so few people care to tune in- is! - a big deal.
So, what’s going on here? The left-wing pundits will blame it on ‘covid disruptions’, and a lack of fans in the stands or a lack of overall excitement built up ahead of time, due to the pandemic.
That’s bologna. Which leads to the question: how much of this loss of interest by the American people is due to the ‘woke’ athletes and the sense that- if they aren’t going to be proud of their country....why should we be proud of them?
For me- it is the ‘wokeness’ and the fact that a larger number of young American athletes than ever-went over there saying that they were going to engage in protests and wokeism...in a display to the world.
And here’s the unfair thing. I admit this is unfair on my end: it was probably, what? Three or four individual athletes who made a stink ahead of time...and it was the women’s soccer team that engaged in the early stunting...
But- in fairness- most of these young people over there representing our country do love it, and want to wave the flag, and want to represent us on the global stage.
I do believe this is an instance in which a few bad apples have spoiled the entire bushel.
Most of these kids love flag and country and we should be proud of them and root for them-
But I can explain what happened- because I’ve run into the situation: I don’t know who to root for NBC and the news media didn’t give us the profiles of pro-America athletes.... or their inspiring back stories...
Instead, they gave us a steady diet of stories about the anti-America crap bags like Megan Rapinoe and the hammer thrower. What was her name? Dingleberry?
Wasn’t it berry? Gwen Berry.
We got the MSM focusing solely on these anti-American activist athletes....and so...when I tuned in Saturday night i realized- i don’t even have a real rooting interest here. Aside from anyone in an American, uniform, of course.
I had seen stories about none of these gals or guys. Didn’t realize we had a cool little red-headed swimmer from no-where Alaska competing that would turn out to be a great story.
Nothing.
And so- I feel bad for the hundreds of young US athletes that are over there who worked their entire young lives to reach this point...and grab the American flag...and hope to drape it over their shoulders in a medal ceremony.
They are the ones who are really losing out here.
Because a bunch of arrogant middle-aged women-which is what the US Soccer team is now-
Want to trash this country.
Or because some transgender BMX biker...says she wants to win a medal so she can burn our flag on the podium.
Why did the media have the country wallowing in that crappulence in the run-up to these games?
The answer is: because now, for the bullying left, everything is politics.Any way they can trash America and try to divide it and bring it down.... they are going to do it.
As fellow talker Tammy Bruce summed it up-instead of inspiring stories, we have gotten. Quote...failure, misery, resentment, victimhood, and hatred for the country.
Yep.
The left has generated a shift away from national pride among our young people. And among the more gullible adults.
They’ve also infected what was our last national pastime that was devoid of politics. The last national pastime that brought us all together: sports.
