Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke announced he is leaving his current post to take an assistant secretary position with the Department of Homeland Security next month. Clarke made the announcement to WISN/WIBA's Vicki McKenna in Milwaukee and Madison on The Vicki McKenna Show.

He will be a multi-agency and local law enforcement liason. Clarke says he hopes to be able to help fill the gaps between local law enforcement needs, local and federal intel and the federal government.  He says he told Gov. Walker some months ago he was likely to leave, but said he has not had a conversation w/Walker about his replacement.

The position does not require Senate confirmation.
